Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released its latest weather forecast update as of 11 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012, noting that Bagyong Ofel is now crossing the West Philippine Sea, away from the country.

As announced by PAGASA on its official website on Thursday night, Tropical Storm Ofel has maintained its strength. Its center is 240 km West of Bataan, as of 10 p.m. and has maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph, and moving Northwest at 24 kph.

Bagyong Ofel is being forecast to be 690 km West of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on Friday evening (October 26). Public Storm Signal No. 1 is raised in Zambales and Bataan, while Public storm warning signal elsewhere in the country has been lowered.

However, PAGASA is still reminding all residents living in low lying and mountainous areas to be aware of possible flashfloods and landslides. Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to sail into the seaboards of Northern Luzon and over the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon due to the surge of Northeast Monsoon.

“10:21PM: Mod to heavy rains over Masbate, Leyte, Cebu, while light to mod rains over Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental w/c may persist for 3hr.” PAGASA (@dost_pagasa) tweeted, adding later that there will be moderate to heavy rains and at times intense in Tarlac, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, and Nueva Ecija.

Colin Powell endorsement goes to President Obama, for the second time around (Video)

Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell announced his endorsement this Thursday, October 25, 2012 via ‘CBS This Morning,’ as shown in the video below; and it went to US President Barack Obama again. Powell‘s endorsement to Obama is his second, since he also supported him during the 2008 US presidential election.

As aired at CBS this Thursday morning, Powell, 75, who was the US Secretary of State during the administration of President George W. Bush, talked to CBS This Morning anchors Charlie Rose and Norah O’Donnell, and was asked if he will still endorse President Obama for his second bid in the November presidential election.

“I voted for him in 2008, and I plan to stick with him in 2012.” Powell said during the CBS morning show interview, who is also the author of his memoir ‘It Worked For Me: In Life and Leadership‘, along with Tony Koltz, which was released last May 22. He is also a retired four-star general and a Republican.

“Let me tell you why. When he took over, the country was in very very difficult straits. We were in the one of the worst recessions we had seen in recent times, close to a depression. The fiscal system was collapsing. Wall Street was in chaos, we had 800,000 jobs lost in that first month of the Obama administration, and unemployment peaked a few months later at 10 percent. So we were in real trouble.” Powell told Rose.

“Generally, we’ve come out of the dive and we’re starting to gain altitude. The unemployment rate is too high, people are still hurting in housing, but I see that we’re starting to rise up.” Powell noted, summarizing the past four years of the Obama administration, but later emphasized that he will remain as a Republican.

“The governor who was saying things at the debate on Monday night … was saying things that were quite different from what he said earlier. I’m not quite sure which Gov. Romney we would be getting with respect to foreign policy.” Powell said of Mitt Romney, whom the president joked earlier as having Romnesia.

Presidential polls conducted by Gallup showed that US President Barack Obama has narrowed down the lead of Republican candidate Mitt Romney. The Gallup daily presidential polls results covers the period from October 21 to 23, 2012.

As of posting, the Gallup poll indicates that Romney with 50 percent still leads Obama who garnered 47 percent. Obama gained a point while Romney lost one percentage point on likely voters during Election Day.

The latest Gallup poll update came three days after the final US Presidential debate last Monday, October 22.

Many political analysts reportedly favored Obama during the last debate with his aggressiveness against Romney.

Before the third presidential debate, Romney was leading Obama with five percentage points.

Gallup however has not explained whether the latest result is an indication of Obama winning his Monday’s debate with Romney.

The Obama campaign earlier questioned the credibility of the Gallup poll since the incumbent US President has been leading over Romney in all other presidential polls.

Gloria Allred is reportedly cooking up a Mitt Romney surprise that may influence voters in the upcoming US Presidential elections on November 6, 2012.

The high-profile civil rights lawyer is reportedly trying “to obtain a court order to unseal the sworn testimony given by Mitt Romney in a prior court case and to lift a gag order so that the parties can speak about Romney.”

Allred is reportedly seeking Romney‘s testimony in the divorce case of Staples founder Tom Stemberg and former wife Maureen.

Time reports that a family court justice is expected to decide on whether the Stemberg divorce proceedings can be made public.

TMZ earlier reported that during the trial, Romney testified that the Staples stock was “overvalued.” Romney‘s testimony reportedly pave the way for Maureen to receive a lesser amount in the divorce.

A hearing on Allred‘s petition was scheduled on Wednesday in Canton, Massachusetts. The Massachusetts probate judge reportedly withheld any decision to unseal Romney‘s testimony until Thursday.

US President Barack Obama was on ‘Tonight Show with Jay Leno‘ on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, as shown in the preview video below. He talked about politics, family, among others. He also joked about Donald Trump, who earlier announced that he will give $5 million to Obama‘s charities if he will release his college and passport records.

As aired at NBC, President Obama returned to ‘Tonight Show‘ for the fifth time and third time since he elected as president. He was seen relax while talking to show host Jay Leno, and even took time to joke about the feud between him and Donald Trump, which he said goes all the way back to childhood, in Kenya.

“We had constant run-ins on the soccer field. He wasn’t very good and resented it. When we finally moved to America I thought it would be over.” President Obama jokingly said, adding that he has never actually met Donald Trump. Leno compared the Obama-Trump feud to the dislike between him and his CBS rival David Letterman.

Mr. Obama was also asked about his poor performance during the first presidential debate with Mitt Romney. “You know, I was sort of getting the hang of it. We had to make some adjustments.” He said, adding later that his Obamacare can cure Romnesia, a new term he earlier coined referring to Romney‘s condition.

On the first part of the show, he talked about his struggle while helping his daughters with their math homework, noting that math was fine but admitted he was ‘pretty lost’ after 7th grade. Later he said he still wanted US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to join his cabinet if he wins again.

As announced by PAGASA on its official Twitter account, Tropical Storm Ofel is currently moving towards the West Philippine Sea, and its center was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 40 km West of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, as of 10 a.m. this Tuesday morning.

According to PAGASA, Bagyong Ofel has maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph, and is forecast to move West Northwest at 22 kph. It is being expected to be at 510 km West of Metro Manila by tomorrow morning (October 26).

Meanwhile, the areas under Public Storm Signal 2 include Batangas, Lubang Island, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Romblon. The list of areas has been reduced since its earlier weather update this Thursday, 5 a.m.

On the other hand, among those areas under Public Storm Signal 1 are Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Calamian Group of Islands, Bataan, Southern Quezon, Burias Island, Masbate, and Metro Manila. PAGASA (@dost_pagasa) later tweeted, “Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1 including Cavite and Laguna.”

“11:54AM moderate to heavy rains in Cangara, Leyte and nearby areas which may persist 1-2 hours.” PAGASA tweeted, adding later that the same event is also happening in Tuburan and Astorias and nearby areas, as well as in Zambales.

Nevertheless, PAGASA is still reminding residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under Storm Signal No 1 and 2 to be aware of the flashfloods and landslides, and possible storm surges in areas under Storm Signal No. 2.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are strongly advised not to travel into the seaboards of Northern Luzon and over the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon due to the combined effect of Bagyong Ofel and the Northeast Monsoon.

A so-called Obama photobomb is now going viral, as shown below, a day after his third and final presidential debate with Republican candidate Mitt Romney. US President Barack Obama posed for photos with a group of African-American students, mostly pre-schoolers, and one of them was caught kissing a fellow student.

As noted at Huffington Post on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, President Obama made a surprise visit to Daughter of Zion Jr. Academy in Delray Beach, Florida on Tuesday, after his campaign at Delray Beach Tennis Center. He later posed for photos with the students, and the unexpected happened.

The nearly 200 young students wearing their green polo shirt and beige shorts uniforms notably enjoyed their time with the president especially when a photo session with him was announced. The students were arranged and Mr. Obama sat in front in the lowest row, and the photographer took photos without warning.

However, one of the male students in the last row was caught kissing a fellow female student beside him, while President Obama is talking to a young boy and another on his lap. No one seemed to have noticed them except for the photographer, despite the two are in between the other students.

Interestingly, the ‘romantic’ moment was captured in another angle when the president and the children are now smiling at the camera. The first Obama photobomb appeared on Barack Obama‘s official Twitter account on Wednesday and was called “Photo of the Day.”

World’s smallest dog wannabe from Poland hopes to enter Guinness World Records (Video)

Posted: 24 Oct 2012 07:33 PM PDT

Meysi, the latest candidate for being the world’s smallest dog, is from Poland, as shown in the video below. Her owner, Anna Pohl of Jarocin, Poland is now hoping that she can enter Guinness World Records (GWR) later.

As noted at Jarocinska.pl, a Polish news site on October 15, 2012, Ms. Pohl turned her life upside down when Meysi, a tiny Terrier puppy, was born three months ago, because she only weighed just 45 grams (around 0.1 lbs) and about 2 inches long. She said she thought her dog would not make it.

“The worst was the first six weeks. I had zero sleep because I had to watch over consistently and feed her every every thirty minutes. One of the veterinarians told me that I stay awake at night if she cannot eat well during daytime.” Ms. Pohl told the paper, as translated to English via Google Translate.

“Her sister is three times her size. She eats on her own now… but she’s too small to bathe… She eats Gerber baby food on her own. You can tell by her round belly that she’s got a good appetite.” She was quoted by the New York Daily News on her YouTube video.

“Sometimes I ran out of strength, had to call out of work. I have to keep Meysi in a cage when I’m not around because I’m afraid she’ll get stepped on. She is a lovely little thing, but you have to be very careful where you sit and where you walk.” Ms. Pohl added, with her dog Meysi now only a bit bigger than her smartphone.

According to Central European News/Europics Photo Agency (CEN), Meysi now weighs about 3.25 ounces (92 grams), despite the fact that she is being constantly fed, adding that veterinarians said they do not think Meysi will grow much more.

Ms. Pohl said she is hoping that Meysi could be known one day as the world’s smallest dog, but Guinness World Records only recognizes dogs that are at least one year old, and they have no record for the world’s smallest puppy. GWR‘s world’s smallest dog (living) today in terms of length is Heaven Sent Brandy from Florida, USA.
