Chicago’s Election Website Crashed Due to High Internet Visitors Posted: 06 Nov 2012 12:58 PM PST Image Credit: Chicago Suntimes Chicago's election website did not anticipate the huge internet visitors on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The website crashed due to people looking for their polling place as well as election related news. Langdon Neal, Chairman of the Chicago Board of Elections, was quoted saying that their site was redirected to State Board of Elections website while they are switching to a new server as reported by Chicago Suntimes, . In addition 80 operators were also added on Tuesday morning in the election board's "control room". Callers were mainly related to confused voters and election judges reporting problems with voting machines Redistricting affected about 20 percent of the registered voters, which leads to confusion of voters. "I think the redistricting had a huge effect, even though we [communicated] to every single voter … and we've been talking about it for 30 days," Neal said. In addition, Neal acknowledges that they did not anticipate the volume of voters who will check the internet to find their polling place. "I think we have done as much outreach as we can do," he said. "Now that we see an increased use of technology by the voters [we're looking into] having a more massive and robust internet system that can handle the tremendous load that we had. We've never had it before." Jim Allen, a spokesman for the Chicago Board of Elections, said that they are doing their best to address the high-traffic situation which they never encountered before. |

There were 4 older ladies running the show and 3 voting booths that are similar to a science fair project in how they fold up.” Reddit user Centralpavote wrote at Reddit, as well as in the video description at YouTube. “I initially selected Obama but Romney was highlighted. I assumed it was being picky so I deselected Romney and tried Obama again, this time more carefully, and still got Romney. Being a software developer, I immediately went into troubleshoot mode.” The Reddit user added, but did not mention his location. “I first thought the calibration was off and tried selecting Jill Stein to actually highlight Obama. Nope. Jill Stein was selected just fine. Next I deselected her and started at the top of Romney‘s name and started tapping very closely together to find the ‘active areas’.” Centralpavote further explained. “I asked the voters on either side of me if they had any problems and they reported they did not. I then called over a volunteer to have a look at it. She him hawed for a bit then calmly said “It’s nothing to worry about, everything will be OK.” and went back to what she was doing. I then recorded this video.” He continued. “I’m not a video guy, but if it’s possible to prove whether a video has been altered or not, I will gladly provide the raw footage to anyone who is willing to do so. The jumping frames are a result of the shitty camera app on my Android phone, nothing more.” Centralpavote said on the last part. As of this writing, Centralpavote mentioned in his Reddit post that he has been contacted by a lot of news agencies, including NBC Universal and BBC News. His post has now over 3,000 comments, most of them urging him to show the video to the media, regardless of which candidate is affected. Candy Crowley Slip: CNN correspondent calls Mitt Romney as ‘President Romney’ (Video) Posted: 06 Nov 2012 06:50 AM PST Candy Crowley slips calling Republican candidate Mitt Romney as “President Romney” on Sunday, November 4, 2012. The Candy Crowley slip happened during Sunday’s State of the Union when the CNN correspondent was asking Ohio Republican Senator Rob Portman. Crowley asked Portman, “You have in Ohio a jobless rate that is better than the nationwide jobless rate, and you have an auto bailout that the President put in place that's highly popular. What is it in this state that makes you think that President Romney, uh, sorry, Governor Romney can overcome those particular statistics and the feel of the voters?” Portman reportedly toyed with Crowley‘s slip by saying that “I like your Freudian slip on President Romney. That sounded good.” Early voting results showed that US President Barack Obama is on his way to a second term at the White House. Political analysts believed that Obama‘s slim advantage can still be wiped out by Romney during Election Day on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. According to observers, the Candy Crowley slip may not be good for the ears of the incumbent president. NFL admits mistake on Panthers’ DeAngelo Williams touchdown call Posted: 06 Nov 2012 02:10 AM PST The National Football League (NFL) admits its mistake on Monday, November 5, 2012, regarding the wrong call on Carolina Panthers‘ DeAngelo Williams‘ attempt to make a touchdown, during its match against the Washington Redskins last Sunday at the FedEx Field, in Maryland. The Panthers won, 21-13. Carolina Panthers’ DeAngelo Williams, making running for a touchdown against the Washington Redskins (November 4, 2012) Image Credit: Patrick McDermott, Getty Images As noted at NFL.com on Monday, DeAngelo Williams was on his way to a 30-yard touchdown (TD) when a referee blew his whistle at the 17-yard line and mistakenly thought the Panthers running back had stepped out of bounds. Williams continued to run and completed the touchdown, while the Redskins stopped pursuing him. According to the report, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan told reporters that line judge Thomas Symonette‘s whistle was “an obvious mistake” and that the NFL had no choice but to admit that the officials made a wrong call, noting that the Panthers should not have been given a touchdown. “In Sunday’s game between the Carolina Panthers and Washington Redskins, the Panthers were incorrectly awarded a touchdown following an inadvertent whistle.” An NFL spokesperson was quoted in a statement at CBS Sports, confirming that Williams did not step out of bounds. Apparently, the paper said that the ball should have been dead when Symonette blew the whistle, and the Panthers should have given two options: Have the ball on the 17-yard line or replay the down at the 30; which is indicated on page 32 of the NFL Rule Book, Rule 7, Section 2, Article 1; when an inadvertent whistle is blown. Apparently, this issue was raised because all touchdowns are now being reviewed automatically. The replay of the game showed the whistle was blown earlier, but the so-called inadvertent whistle was not seen in the replay. Although NFL has admitted their mistake, the earlier decision cannot be reserved. |
