Romney is reportedly trying to cut Obama‘s lead further as his team confirmed that the Republican nominee will be campaigning in Pennsylvania on Sunday, November 4.

On the other hand, Obama is reportedly banking on his government’s response after key states were badly hit by Hurricane Sandy.

A recent ABC News/Washington Post poll conducted after Superstorm Sandy hit the US showed that about 78 percent of Americans surveyed were satisfied with the Obama administration’s handling of the crisis.

Political analysts said that New York mayor Michael Bloomberg‘s endorsement of the incumbent president also boosted his chances of retaining hold of the White House. Bloomberg explained that he supports the re-election bid of Obama because of “his support for policies to address climate change.”

Obama is reportedly holding three events in Ohio on Friday, November 2 and will visit several other swing states over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Gallup Daily tracking poll announced that it has suspended its 2012 presidential polls due to outages in several key US states.

Rasmussen Presidential Polls 2012: President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney now tied at 48%, as Election Day goes nearer

Posted: 02 Nov 2012 09:10 AM PDT

Rasmussen Reports released its latest presidential polls for Friday, November 2, 2012 and showed that President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are now tied at 48% each, after Romney maintained a 2% lead over Obama in the past few days, now with only four days before the US presidential election.

According to a post by the Rasmussen Reports this Friday morning, both presidential candidates now have attracted 48% each of likely voters across the US. One percent (1%) prefers some other candidate, while three percent (3%) remain undecided. Romney was leading by 3 percent last week.

“Election 2012 has had few surprises. So it’s somewhat surprising that heading into the final weekend of the election season, we are unable to confidently project who is likely to win the White House.” Scott Rasmussen wrote on his column at RasmussenReports.com this Friday.

“All year long, the economy has been the number one issue of the campaign. That hasn’t changed. While Mitt Romney has a slight advantage when it comes to handling the economy, neither candidate has really convinced voters that they know what the nation needs.” Rasmussen added.

As of this writing, President Barack Obama has 237 Electoral College votes, as compared to 206 of Mitt Romney. Eight states, including Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin, which have a total of 95 Electoral College votes, are being expected to determine the winner.

As noted by Mr. Rasmussen, both Florida and Virginia are two must-win states for Romney. But if Obama wins in either of the two, he has a great edge to win his second term; which means the 65-year old former Massachusetts governor should win in Wisconsin or Ohio, where the auto bailout issue is going against him.

Model Sandy photo shoot goes viral, Nana Gouvea criticized after posing behind destruction (Photo)

Posted: 02 Nov 2012 05:40 AM PDT

The so-called model Sandy photo shoot is now going viral, after Brazilian model Nana Gouvea posed behind the destruction brought about by hurricane, as shown in the photo below. She is now receiving a lot of criticisms online, with her photos also resulting to an Internet meme and a Facebook page.

As noted at EGO, a Brazilian celebrity blog, Nana Gouvea was in New York with her her husband, Carlos Keyes during the height of Hurricane Sandy, but they decided to leave the house on Tuesday, October 30. Gouvea then posed for photos behind fallen trees and damaged cars and Keyes took the pictures.

According to the report, Gouvea, 27, said has not leave their house since Saturday due to Sandy, but noted that she was not bored since she and Carlos were most of the time in bed. Hurricane Sandy was said to be not the first storm for Nana in New York, and that she also there in August 2011 when Hurricane Irene came.

Meanwhile, the said Sandy photo shoot was criticized in social media including in Twitter and Facebook. A Nana Gouvea in Disaster page was created in Facebook and Tumblr, where both pages received a lot of mockery, along with some photoshopped photos of other disasters with her photo inserted on them.

Gawker also published a post this Wednesday, titled ‘A Guide to Posing for Glamour Shots in the Aftermath of a Devastating Natural Disaster’, and even shared six tips on how to do it, stressing out that “it is a great opportunity to get out there and try poses, angles, and wardrobe choices you normally wouldn’t.”

Talking elephant Koshik speaks Korean language, scientists reveal (Video)

Posted: 02 Nov 2012 03:36 AM PDT

Koshik, a 22-year old male elephant from Everland Zoo, in Yongin, South Korea, is now being dubbed as the talking elephant and can speak Korean language. Scientists revealed that the Korean elephant can imitate human speech by inserting this trunk into his mouth, as shown in the video below.

As noted at Current Biology journal (Cell.com) on Thursday, November 1, 2012, Angela Stoeger and Daniel Mietchen of the University of Vienna were among the researchers, who have studied the unique ability of Koshik to speak like humans, noting that vocal imitation has convergently evolved in various species.

According to the abstract of the study, the Korean talking elephant can modulate the shape of the vocal tract during controlled phonation when it places its trunk inside its mouth, which represents a wholly novel method of vocal production and formant control in this or any other species.

“Human speech has two important aspects, pitch, and timbre. Intriguingly, Koshik is capable of matching both. This is remarkable considering the anatomical differences between an elephant and a human.” Angela Stoeger was quoted at Daily Mail, who was assisted by her colleagues in recording of the elephant while talking.

“We found a high agreement concerning the overall meaning, and even the Korean spelling of Koshik‘s imitations.” Stoeger added. Koshik is being believed to have start learning to repeat human speech when he was kept alone for five years as a young mammal.

On the documented video of the talking elephant, Koshik can be heard him saying ‘choah,’ (a Korean word which means ‘good’), repeating what his trainer says. Nevertheless, the Korean elephant was reportedly also capable of saying four other Korean words: ‘annyong’ (hello), ‘anja’ (sit down), ‘aniya’ (no), and ‘nuo’ (lie down).
