Three-legged dog steals dog food inside a grocery store in New Zealand, caught on CCTV (Video) Posted: 17 Jan 2013 07:19 AM PST A three-legged dog was caught on security camera stealing dog food inside a grocery store in New Zealand, as shown in the video below. The unlikely shoplifter was actually caught in the act twice by the store owner, but it was on its third time that the canine was caught by a staff and has been in the dog pound since then. Store owner Esmay Hay said she first saw the incident on Friday, January 4, while she was serving some customers. “We noticed movement on the security camera, there’s been nobody here so I’m assuming now Oscar may have paid us a visit before.” Esmay Hay was quoted as saying, noting that the usual thief she knows have two legs. The video became viral and her daughter’s Facebook page had visitors who wanted to adopt the dog. “The video is so funny, just to see the look on their faces, they just couldn’t believe it. They were standing there with their mouths open. We suspect he came through the open back door and trotted through the shop because the next thing, he appeared at the dog roll chiller.” Ms. Hay added. “The dog roll wrapper was found about three blocks up the road, so he’d enjoyed his meal.” She further explained. After Oscar was captured by her staff, they tied him up, fed him, and later surrendered him to the dog pound. Apparently, local officials said that the three-legged dog has been a familiar face on the streets. This Wednesday, New Zealand news reports said that Oscar is a 10-year-old German short-haired pointer dog. His owner is now on a vacation in Stewart Island, and a family member was left to watch over the three-legged dog. However, the fence of the house was reportedly not good enough, allowing Oscar to escape. John Youngson, Invercargill City Council Manager of Environmental Health, who handles the case, said that Oscar is expected to be reunited with his owner this Friday. And although Oscar is in good hands in the pound, he reminded all dog owners to make sure that their pets are being taken care of when they are away. FAA grounds all Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes over safety issues, United Airlines flights affected Posted: 17 Jan 2013 12:53 AM PST The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has grounded all Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes, after a series of mishaps involving the commercial plane, including a Boeing 787 plane that made an emergency landing in Japan yesterday, Wednesday, January 16, 2013, which was operated by All Nippon Airways (ANA). Boeing 787 Dreamliner Image Credit: Boeing.com According to a press release at FAA.gov on Wednesday night, the agency has required all US-registered Boeing 787 Dreamliners operators to stop their operations temporarily, and will issue an emergency airworthiness directive (AD) to address the issue of a potential battery fire risk on the said airplanes. In addition, FAA will be working with Boeing and its carriers to develop a corrective action plan so that the operation of the 787 Dreamliner planes in US flights will be resumed as soon as possible, without risking the lives of the passengers and crew. So far, only United Airlines flights are affected in this issue, with six airplanes now in service. Apparently, an almost similar battery-related problem happened in Boston on Monday, January 7, and also involved a Boeing 787 Dreamliner airplane. The root cause of the last two incidents is still under thorough investigation, but FAA emphasized that this could lead to fire if it will not be solved properly. Last Friday, January 12, FAA announced a comprehensive review of the design, manufacture, and assembly of the 787 Dreamliners, adding that it will also review the plane batteries and its system. The agency is also advising international aviation communities, which include India, Poland, Qatar, and Chile, to conduct their own actions. “The safety of passengers and crew members who fly aboard Boeing airplanes is our highest priority. Boeing is committed to supporting the FAA and finding answers as quickly as possible.” Jim McNerney, Boeing Chairman, President and CEO, was quoted at Boeing.Mediaroom.com also on Wednesday night. “The company is working around the clock with its customers and the various regulatory and investigative authorities. We will make available the entire resources of The Boeing Company to assist. We are confident the 787 is safe and we stand behind its overall integrity.” McNerney added. |

He won the 2012 NBA Finals MVP when his team beat Oklahoma City Thunder last year. LeBron James, born on December 30, 1984, now joins the likes of Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant, who was the earlier record-holder of the youngest NBA player to score 20,000 points. That time, Bryant was 29 years and 122 days old. Chamberlain scored his 20,000th point at the age of 29 years and 134 days. “It’s more than a number. It means I’ve been able to stay healthy, for one. And I’ve been able to, I guess, play at this level at a high level, and been around teammates that allow me to play at a high level, as well. So it is more than a number.” James was quoted telling to reporters before he is being expected to hit his 20,000-point mark. Interestingly, LeBron James is also the youngest player to be drafted No. 1 overall in 2003 at 18 years and 303 days old, and the youngest to win the NBA Rookie of the Year, which he achieved during the 2003-2004 NBA Season at the age of 19. Woman loses 222 pounds; Aimee Smith is once 427 lbs, now a triathlete (Video) Posted: 16 Jan 2013 08:12 PM PST A woman loses 222 pounds and is now triathlete, after realizing that she really needs to lose her weight. Aimee Smith of Wisconsin, who earlier thought being overweight is not a serious problem, recently shared her weight loss journey to inspire others, as shown in the video below. Aimee Smith, before and after losing 222 pounds Image Credit: Aimee Smith/WKOW/ABC As noted at ABC News on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, Aimee Smith was already weighing 300 pounds but she did not think her weight could be dangerous until she gave birth to her second child via C-section. Two years ago, her weight reached to an astonishing 427 pounds, and has become almost hopeless. Smith, 44, said that she underwent a gastric bypass surgery, and has now completely changed her lifestyle. She admits of sacrificing a lot doing diet and regular exercise. And interestingly, she started all by herself, until she became a triathlete and has lost weight that is almost half of her previous body weight. “My knees hurt, my back hurt. I had high blood pressure. I was pre-diabetic. I was going down a bad path. I’m sure carrying around 400 pounds wasn’t doing my health any favors.” Smith was quoted as saying, noting that she later decided to work with a health coach who helped her to a healthier way of eating. “In high school I probably would have been voted least likely to do something athletic if there was such an award. I’ve lost so much weight that when I went back for my 25th reunion recently, no one recognized me. They thought my husband was the one who was in their class!” Smith added. During her struggle to lose weight, Smith signed up for a “couch to 5k” program and took it twice. She learned to swim for the first time, rides a bikes and run, until she entered triathlons. She has already completed two triathlons and two half marathons, and is now training for a marathon this May. Story of Aimee Smith, before and after losing 222 pounds Video Credit: WKOW/ABC |
