Lion Head Rabbits Breeding Gaining Popularity

If you love rabbits and a breeder of rabbits this type of rabbit breed may be familiar to you, if you are a breeder of this type of rabbit you are very lucky, the Lionhead rabbits is now gaining popularity in the United States, although there are a lot of breeders that is not recognizing this breed of rabbit still most people do love to have a Lionhead rabbits for their pets.

The lionhead rabbits is a cross breed of Belgian Dwarf rabbits and Swiss Fox rabbits, the combination is great that a Lionhead rabbits became the results,  there is already an organization about the lionhead rabbits, you can check this at lioheadrabbits.org.

The lionhead rabbits is a new breed and its very popular right not compared to other breeds, the look is somewhat similar to lion ,  head of a rabbit mimics the mane of the lion, hence the word lionhead..(see photos below).

In the recently concluded rabbit show, the 2013 Shelby Fair 4-H there are five different breeds show in the fair,  the Lionhead rabbits is said to have originated in Belgium but U.S breeder made it popular, you can check the organization lionhead.us , even though that it is extremely popular in the U.S the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA), still don't recognize the breed.

There are about 14 current COD varities:  Black, Blue, Blue Point, Blue-Eyed White, Chestnut Agouti, Chocolate and others, but only 2 are allowed in presentations. So far the ARBA allowed the lionhead rabbits for presentation but  not allowed in the Best Show Awards.

Are you a breeder of Lionhead rabbits? What do you think? Should the ARBA recognize the liohead as a new breed?
