Burger King UK drops a firm as its beef supplier, which was involved in the horse meat controversy and is now under investigation by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI). This action of Burger King comes a week after the Irish food safety agency announced that traces of horse meat were found in some local burgers.

According to a press release at BurgerKing.co.uk on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, the food chain company has decided to drop Silvercrest Foods, a subsidiary of ABP Food Group, as their 100% beef patties supplier in the UK and Ireland, and will replace them with another approved Burger King supplier.

“While this is not a food safety issue according to findings from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), upon learning of these allegations, we immediately launched an independent investigation that is currently on-going.” A statement reads at BurgerKing.co.uk, adding that they will continue their own investigation.

“Unfortunately, this may mean that some of our products are temporarily unavailable. We apologize to our guests for any inconvenience. However, we want to let them know that they can trust us to serve only the highest quality products. We take this matter seriously.” Burger King UK added.

An earlier test was conducted by the FSAI to Liffey Meats and Silvercrest Foods, and both plants have been found positive with DNA horse meat, which was also found in batches of raw ingredients. The affected food products were being sold in Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Lidl, Aldi, and in Iceland.

However, Burger King emphasized that their action was voluntary and is only a precautionary measure since FSAI noted on their report that there is no issue on food safety. And while it is legal to buy or sell horse meat in the UK, it is illegal not to declare it on food labels, plus it is not in their culture to eat horse meat.

According to a report at GayStarNews.com on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, the IKEA transgender ad being questioned is titled “Luem Aeb,” which means “forget to deceive,” was featured on the sky train system in Bangkok from December 28, 2012 to January 13, 2013, and online via YouTube.

On the said IKEA ad video, a man and a gorgeous young woman were inside an IKEA store, checking out some items. At one point, the woman was surprised when she saw the low prices and spoke on a deep male voice, suggesting that she is a transgender. The man was surprised and seemed to be disappointed with her.

Shortly after, the woman invited him to join her, as she excitedly take a look on the items, but the man did not follow her. Later, the woman can be seen carrying a heavy wooden box of flat-packed furniture, while the man left her and run away, suggesting that he does not like her because she is a transgender.

On the open letter to IKEA Global, Thai Transgender Alliance noted that “the transgender content of the ad is negative and stereotypical in nature” and “created a misconception about the way of life of bisexuals,” adding that it also “demonstrates a parody of a weirdo, without the full knowledge of being a transgender.”

A dangerous airplane stunt in Texas, as shown in the video, has caught the attention of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which will conduct an investigation after proper documents concerning the daredevil act were not found. The original video footage was uploaded at YouTube by Those Crazy Texans.

“What it looks like to have a plane fly within 2 feet of you at 200mph.” A statement reads on the description of the 19-second video, which shows a fast-moving biplane approaching a man riding on a moving all-terrain vehicle on the road. But before the two could collide, the plane maneuvered to the right and avoided the crash.

Shortly after, the speedy plane can be seen passing to the left side of the cameraman, but barely misses him and left him a cloud of smoke. The camera slowly shifted to the right, showing the plane flying upwards coming from behind, and going back to its initial location until it was gone out of sight.

As noted at WFAA.com, an ABC-affiliated news agency in Dallas/Fort Worth, some social media sites and blogs said that the dangerous airplane was a practice session for an upcoming air show shot at the Lancaster Municipal Airport. The pilot has already been identified, but his name was not mentioned in the report.

“He does have an FAA aerobatic waiver. We are required to keep a copy the waiver on file. We do have a copy of that waiver, and have verified it’s currently valid.” Lancaster City Manager Opal Mauldin Robertson told the report, noting that the pilot leases a space from a tenant who is currently renting the airport.

“The city will be fully cooperating with the Federal Aviation Administration in reviewing the activities of that pilot.” Robertson added, with the FAA noting that the agency could not immediately find the pilot’s waiver in relation to his dangerous airplane stunt. However, the pilot was said to be very concerned with safety.

Wayne Gretzky selling mansion in California for $15 million (Photos and Video)

Posted: 23 Jan 2013 09:06 PM PST

Wayne Gretzky is selling his mansion in California, as shown in the photos and video below. Gretzky, a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and former head coach, is reportedly selling his huge house for almost $15 million ($14,995,000 to be exact), which is located at 1072 Newbern Ct, in Thousand Oaks.

As noted at Zillow, which released a video tour on Gretzky‘s estate late last week, the two-storey mansion measures 10,815 square feet and has 6 bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms. Among its amenities include a movie theater, a fireplace, a swimming pool, a tennis court, and an outdoor wood-burning pizza oven.

According to the listing, Gretzky‘s mansion was built in 2002 and was designed by famous architect Richard Landry, who also designed houses for celebrities including Tom Brady and Sylvester Stallone. The gigantic property, which measures 6.5 acre, also has two guest houses, one of which is a full gym.

In addition, a circular driveway can be seen upon entering the gate, with a view of the majestic mountains and breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Sherwood, along with promenade terraces and gardens. For its interior design, artisan craftsmanship can be found in each and every room.

But just to make it clear, Wayne Gretzky is not really the one selling the mansion since he does not own the property anymore. In fact, Trulia reported last month it was sold to troubled baseball star Lenny Dykstra for $17.5 million in 2007. Dykstra tried to sell it for $24 million in 2008 but he lost it in foreclosure.

Since then, it has been in an on-and-off listing with its price changing from time to time. Until finally, it was sold in an auction in 2010, and the current owners completely overhauled the mansion and put it on listing since late last year.

A car that runs on air may be ready for production by 2016, according to a report by Motor Authority on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.

The new Hybrid Air concept car is being developed by French automaker PSA Peugeot Citrogen. It’s latest in car technology was unveiled by the car manufacturer during its Innovation Day held at the Automotive Design Network (ADN) R&D centre in Velizy, France.

According to PSA Peugeot Citrogen, it’s latest car innovation will replace the electric component of hybrid cars with compressed air.

The PSA Peugeot Citroen Hybrid Air concept car reportedly “combines a regular internal combustion engine with a special epicyclic transmission and hydraulic motor powered by compressed air.”

Similar with conventional hybrid cars, Hybrid Air concept car will use gasoline engine along highways, while the hydraulic motor will be utilized in areas with speed of up to 43 mph. The combine engine power will be used during high load situations that include hard acceleration or steep climb.

Car tanks will be refilled using regenerative forces to absorb air and compress it for later use.

Designers of the car estimates an average fuel economy of about 117 mpg. Additionally, it will only add 220 pounds to the weight of the car. The Hybrid Air is expected to be cheaper than any other hybrid cars that will make it an ideal car to use around the city.

PSA Peugeot Citrogen earlier introduced the world's first diesel-electric hybrid car.

Cat Born Without Leg Bones: Harvey walks using elbows (Video)

A cat born without leg bones in his front limbs reportedly learned to walk using his elbows. The kitten, named Harvey, caught netizens’ attention after his owner placed him on sale at Gumtree website.

Daily Mail reported that Harvey is suffering from radial agenesis. According to the report, the kitten’s ulna and radius bones were missing as shown by x-ray results.

Harvey‘s missing bones reportedly connects the upper front legs and his paws.

With the help of the Cats Protection, an animal charity organization, Harvey will undergo surgery to replace his missing bones with metal.

Liz McCulloch, the cat’s 50-year-old caretaker, described Harvey as “a lovely little thing.” McCulloch further explains that,

Because Harvey was born that way he doesn't know there's anything wrong with him so he runs around on his elbows and happily plays with my other cat and dog.

He's OK at the moment but if he doesn't get the operation he'll start to damage his spine when he gets bigger.

An anonymous buyer at Gumtree reportedly acquired Harvey and turned him over to Cats Protection in Glasgow. According to Lorraine Currie, co-ordinator of Cats Protection's Glasgow branch,

A friend of the branch spotted him on Gumtree. It said in the advert he had two broken legs but when she got there he had no bones at all. She felt sorry for him and took him home but it became clear he needed a lot of treatment and that's when we got involved.

Cats Protection workers took Harvey to a veterinarian for examination. He was diagnosed with the rare condition that usually happens when “an animal's leg bones fail to develop.”

Harvey can only be operated when he reaches six months old. Reports say that these will provide enough time for the cat’s existing bones to strengthen and carry the weight of the pins.

Reports say that in just three days, Cats Protection was able to raise almost $5,000 for Harvey‘s operation when he reaches six months.
