Neil Armstrong Lied About “One Small Step” Origin?

Did Neil Armstrong lied about his famous words on the moon? Probably, if the latest documentary where Neil‘s brother, Dean, was interviewed is to be believed.

In a recent BBC documentary, Dean is quoted as saying that Neil showed him the famous words months before the Apollo 11 flight, during a family visit when they were playing Risk, a board game. That is contrary to what Neil Armstrong had said, that he had thought of the line when he was already on the moon.

According to Dean, Neil slipped him a piece of paper and told him to read it.

“On that piece of paper there was, ‘That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.’ He says, ‘What do you think about that?’ I said, ‘Fabulous.’ He said, ‘I thought you might like that, but I wanted you to read it,’” Dean is quoted as saying in the documentary.

“It was, ‘That is one small step for a man,’” Dean corrected himself.

As to why Neil Armstrong would lie about his famous words, Christopher Riley, a professor of science and media at Lincoln University who directed the documentary has this to say as quoted by the IBTimes:

“I think the reason he always claimed he'd thought it up after landing was that he was bombarded by suggestions in the run up to the mission, and found them a distraction to the business of landing on the Moon. It was probably easier to just say that he'd thought it up after landing, thus dodging the issue of where the words came from, and who maybe suggested them, or influenced him.”

Unfortunately, Neil Armstrong is no longer here to clear things up. All we can do is speculate.

According to NBC Sports’ Off the Bench, the site in Dyersville, Iowa was sold in 2011 by its original owners, Don and Becky Lansing to the investors group Go The Distance Baseball LLC. However, it took time before the sale was completed because of plenty of paperworks.

The Field Of Dreams site costed $3.4 million plus interest. Reports said that it was listed for $5.4 million when it went on the market more than 2 years ago.

According to WhoTV, the site will be turned into a youth baseball and softball complex by the investors group, with first phase of construction to begin this spring.

Aren’t you glad that Field of Dreams movie site is finally turning into a real baseball and softball field?

$1 million Apple heist: Paris Apple store robbed on New Year’s Eve

A so-called $1 million Apple heist occurred on Monday, December 31, 2012 (New Year’s Eve) inside an Apple store in Paris, which is being considered as the first major robbery of an Apple store in France. French reports say that an estimated €1 million (or around $1.25 million) worth of Apple products were stolen.

According to French news site Le Figaro this Tuesday, January 1, 2013, four armed suspects robbed the Apple store in Paris at around 9:40 p.m. (local time) on Monday, located just behind the Palais Garnier, where the Paris Opera House can be found. The said store was closed three hours before the incident.

As noted in the report, there was no force entry made on the entrance of the store and the masked thieves threatened the security guard and a store worker on the back door. Local authorities will further review the video surveillance of the store and will reveal the exact worth of stolen Apple products.

“An initial estimate worth of over a million euro goods were stolen, but an inventory will immediately be made to determine the exact worth of the lost goods.” A source close to the investigation was quoted at LeFigaro.fr via Google Translate, adding that a team of Paris police is now conducting thorough investigation on the incident.

Apple products have seemed to attract robbers these days. This latest incident of Apple heist follows the report back in mid-November 2012, where two crooks used a fork lift to steal two pallets of Apple iPad mini units, worth $1.5 million from a cargo building in John F. Kennedy airport. They were arrested days later.
