Paula Deen diet: Celebrity chef shares weight loss secret, how she lost 36 pounds

Posted: 04 Jan 2013 10:00 AM PST

Paula Deen has lost 36 pounds since her announcement early last year that she had Type 2 diabetes. The famous celebrity chef recently shared her weight loss secret and her diet routine in an exclusive interview by the Woman’s Day magazine February 2013 issue, which will be out this coming Wednesday, January 8.

As noted at WomansDay.com early this week, Paula Deen, host of Paula’s Home Cooking at Food Network, was diagnosed in 2009 as having Type 2 diabetes, but she denied it for years. She finally admitted it publicly on January 12, 2012 at NBC‘s Today Show, and is now sharing to the world her diet secret.

“It’s about moderation. I just needed to learn to eat a normal portion size and not overindulge. I want to be here for my grandchildren. I think about them every day. My daddy was dead at 40. My mother was dead at 44. And look—I’m 65 and I’m still here! Go, 65!” Paula Deen told the magazine.

As mentioned in the post, Paula has learned that the longer she goes without eating a beloved food, the less she craves it. But she admitted that she couldn’t resist trying some macaroni and cheese and a biscuit in some occasions, which is why she balances it by eating healthier foods for the rest of the day.

“They’re incredible. Having that sweet for 10 minutes in your mouth will take care of your craving. Butterscotch is the best.” Deen says of eating lollipops after some meals, which people with Type 2 diabetes are allowed to eat occasionally.

“I said, ‘Honey, I can’t paint a stick man but I’ll try.’ Well, she unleashed something in me that I didn’t know was there and I just love. You sit down and forget about everything except whatever you’re drawing. It’s like a visit to a psychiatrist,” Paula says of her painting hobby as part of her stay-slim activity.

“I’m on a Brussels sprout kick! They’re selling them in those microwave steam bags, so I steam them, then put them in a frying pan with a little butter and olive oil until some of the outer leaves start getting a little brown. They’re out of this world.” She noted, referring to a diet tip on trying new vegetables.

In addition, Paula Deen also admitted changing some of the foods she eats. However, she noted that there are some dishes that she feels there can be no substitute, such as peanut butter pie, fried pies, and fried green tomatoes.

Dave Mustaine hits Men’s Wearhouse on Facebook over poor customer service experience, receives apology

Posted: 04 Jan 2013 07:58 AM PST

Megadeth‘s Dave Mustaine recently complained about Men’s Wearhouse on the official Megadeth Facebook page on Saturday, December 29, 2012, explaining his bad experience from the clothing’s poor customer service. The 51-year old rock icon later received an apology from the company.

“I know that not all of you have the kind of job that requires a suit, or wear a suit when you (if you) go to any kind of faith-based service, court date, wedding or funeral, but if you do…you are going to want to read this. You know me, I don’t complain much in writing, but I gotta get this off my chest.” Mustaine wrote on his lengthy Facebook post.

“A few days before Christmas I purchased a gift certificate from the Men’s Wearhouse in Salt Lake City, Utah as a gift for our awesome tour manager Jim Carroccio. You know the Men’s Wearhouse…the old geezer with the voice that sound like he has chain-smoked since he was a fetus; the one that espouses.” Mustaine added.

According to the founder and lead vocalist of Megadeth, a Men’s Wearhouse salesman promised him a ‘guaranteed two-day delivery’ but it has been 9 days and they are still waiting for the delivery of the gift certificate. He said they called the company but did not receive any explanation whatsoever.

“They made no effort whatsoever for this mix-up…although they did promise me the same guarantee that they gave me when I bought it; that is that they will send it ‘two-day delivery,’ but I already was promised this. Maybe they mean 12 day delivery.” Mustaine further wrote on his open letter to Men’s Wearhouse.

“I would strongly recommend you wear someone else’s suits. Go to Jos. A Bank instead. I for one will never set foot in a Men’s Wearhouse; even for shelter from a blizzard…I absolutely guarantee it.” Mustaine wrote on the last part of his rant, which has been shared for over 580 times and has received over 1,500 comments.

Yesterday, Thursday, January 3, 2013, a certain Joe of Men’s Wearhouse Social Media Team placed a comment on Dave Mustaine‘s Facebook rant and apologized for what happened, which can be read below. As of this writing, Mustaine has not yet responded and it is not clear as to whether the item has been delivered.

Dave, thanks for reaching out to us on Facebook. We apologize for the delay in receiving your gift card and agree that the delay is unacceptable. Customer satisfaction is our highest priority and we stand by our guarantee to deliver world class customer service. So, we’d like to speak with you about a solution but are having some trouble reaching you since we last connected on 12/28. Please send your contact info to MWListens@tmw.com and our team will help you right away.

Flaunting Dinosaur: Dinosaurs Could Really Shake a Tail Feather, Scott Persons Says

Scott Persons, a scientist from the University of Alberta found that some dinosaurs could really shake a tail feather, according to Canadian Press reports, January 4, 2013.

Based on reports, Persons revealed that at least one species of dinosaurs had strong, flexible tails tipped with large fans of feathers “built for flaunting.”

“Don’t think of a trip back to the Mesozoic like a saunter through a reptile house. Think of it as a trip to Las Vegas, because there would be tail-feather fans on show girls for you", Persons mentioned in a statement.

Moreover, Persons’ newly published paper "Oviraptors", talks about species of flightless dinosaur distantly related to T. Rex with a vegetarian diet, crested heads and birdlike beaks. They ranged in size from about that of a modern turkey to eight metres long and lived between 145 and 66 million years ago, reports said.

According to reports, by studying fossils from recent findings in Mongolia, Persons realized all his Oviraptors would have had long, nimble tails with attachments for powerful muscles to swish them back and forth. He also found that pygostyles- tails ended in piece of solid bone, can be found only on modern birds.

However, Persons can’t yet say if all Oviraptors boasted tail feathers. Pygostyles are delicate and easily destroyed, leaving open the question of how wide a fan of a creature eight metres long could have spread.

In addition, according to Persons, discoveries such as this allow scientists to draw conclusions both about what dinosaurs looked like and how they may have behaved.

“The Oviraptors, you can think of these elegant, long-legged, fast, apparently warm-blooded dinosaurs that are doing more with their time than sunbathing and eating — dinosaurs that are investing time and energy and material into displays", Persons added.

There are 100 billion alien planets in the Milky Way galaxy based on the estimates of a recent study published in The Astrophysical Journal on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

John Johnson, an assistant professor at Caltech in Pasadena, California said that “there are at least 100 billion planets in the galaxy, just our galaxy” and “that’s mind-boggling.” Caltech is reportedly the academic home of NASA‘s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

The number was generated by a group of researchers after they conducted a five-planet system study called Kepler-32. These planets were reportedly 915 light-years away from Earth.

Kepler Space Telescope by NASA detected the five distant planets. The telescope “flags the tiny brightness dips caused when exoplanets cross their star’s face from the instrument’s perspective.”

The researchers further explained that planets at Kepler-32 orbit an M dwarf, a smaller and cooler type of star compared to the sun. About 75 percent of the stars in the galaxy are M dwarfs, according to the researchers.

Space.com reported that the size of the five Kepler-32 planets can be compared to the Earth. The orbit of these planets were very close to their parent star.

In a statement, lead researcher Jonathan Swift described their findings. According to him,

It’s a staggering number, if you think about it. Basically there’s one of these planets per star.

Results of the study only include the analysis of “planets orbiting close to M dwarfs and did not include outer planets in M-dwarf systems.”

Subaru Recall 2013: Subaru recalls over 630,000 vehicles due to fire risk

Posted: 04 Jan 2013 02:13 AM PST

Subaru America recently announced a voluntarily recall involving more than 630,000 vehicles, after learning that their puddle lights may increase fire risk. This Subaru Recall 2013, being the first reported recall this year, has been coordinated with the office of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

According to a press release by the NHTSA on its official website this Thursday, January 3, 2013, Subaru is recalling certain model year 2010 and 2011 Legacy sedan and Outback wagons, and certain model year 2006 through 2012 Tribeca SUVs and certain model year 2009 through 2012 Forester SUVs.

As noted in the report, all of the recalled vehicles, which totaled to approximately 633,842, were sold in the US before January 2012. Subaru emphasized that only around 53,999 of them may have been equipped with puddle lights accessories, which brighten the area under the doors of the vehicle when illuminated.

However, an electrolytic moisture source, such as road salt, may penetrate the circuit board of any of the puddle lights or its connector pins, a short circuit is being feared to occur. This may generate heat which may melt the plastic, increasing the fire risk. No injuries and casualties were mentioned in the report.

Nevertheless, this latest Subaru recall is being expected to start during February 2013, and the car manufacturer will notify the affected owners. As a countermeasure, authorized dealers will install an additional fused-harness, without extra charge.

For more information, owners are being advised to contact Subaru at 1-800-782-2783 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit www.SaferCar.gov.

According to Broken News Daily, Kyle Gough captured the Superman over California video and uploaded it on Youtube. The video, as shown below, shows a life-sized Superman toy flying over California coast, with someone remotely controlling it.

According to Gough as posted on the Youtube video’s description, he was cycling down the Pacific Coast Highway in South California with his friend when Superman flew overhead. He was able to capture the second flight using his cellphone.

Gough said that the Superman toy is custom-built, so, you’ll not be able to easily find one in stores right now. With the attention given to this video, we might someday see Superman flying over the neighborhood from time to time, I guess.

“I’m beyond happy. I really didn’t want it to be news, but I knew people who followed me on Twitter cared about it and I’ve been wearing the ring since Christmas, so I figured I should let people know.” Buss, 51, told ESPNLosAngeles.com. The couple started dating Jackson in 2001, the second year of Phil as the Lakers coach.

Jackson, 67, nicknamed ‘Zen Master’, won five NBA titles from 2000 until 2010 when he was the coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. But in total, he had won 11 NBA titles, where he got six of them when he was the head coach of the Chicago Bulls from 1989 until 1998.
