| Orphan Planet Found: A Potential Orphan Planet Discovered By Astronomers Posted: 15 Nov 2012 08:57 AM PST Astronomers at the Institute of Planetology and Astrophysics of Grenoble in France have discovered a potential orphan planet just 100 light-years away from Earth, science news sites reported on Wednesday, November 14, 2012.  This artist’s impression shows the free-floating planet CFBDSIR2149, at 100 light-years away the closest such “rogue” world to our own solar system. Credit: ESO / L. Calcada / P. Delorme / Nick Risinger (skysurvey.org) / R. Saito / VVV Consortium An orphan planet is a planet that does not orbit a star, so it does not shine by reflected light. According to reports, the free-floating object is called CFBDSIR2149, and is probably a gas giant planet four to seven times more massive than Jupiter. It is said to be wandering alone probably after being ejected from its own solar system. “If this little object is a planet that has been ejected from its native system, it conjures up the striking image of orphaned worlds, drifting in the emptiness of space,” Philippe Delorme, the study leader reportedly said in a statement. The object’s infrared signature was detected using the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope and its properties were examined with the European Southern Observatory‘s Very Large Telescope in Chile, reports said. More observations are needed to confirm if the object is indeed a planet. “We need new observations to confirm that this object belongs to the AB Doradus moving group. With a good distance measurement and a more accurate proper motion, we will be able to increase (or decrease) the probability that it is indeed a planet,” Delorme reportedly told Space.com via email. |

Carmina was caught by surprise and was not aware that Zoren has already arranged everything smoothly without her knowledge. According to the report, Villaroel, 37, who was previously married to Rustom Padilla (now Bb Gandanghari), arrived in the venue at around 3 p.m. and was told she has a family shoot for a product endorsement. Zoren secretly talked to the network and their family and guests prior to the wedding. Apparently, Carmina was surprised when Zoren suddenly proposed for marriage and ABS-CBN, where Carmina being their talent, exclusively covered the romantic scene. Their twins Cassie and Maverick, 11, were also present and were already dressed-up and have been preparing for the civil wedding. Legaspi, 40, later said that he spent 2 months for their wedding, with Grace Poe, Eric Quizon, and Kris Aquino being among the sponsors. Ms. Susan Roces and Maricel Soriano were among the celebrity guests, along with their families of the couple and their closest non-showbiz friends. Carmina and Zoren, who have been living as a couple for 12 years, first met each other on GMA-7‘s former show ‘That’s Entertainment’ back in the 80s, when they were still teen personalities. Zoren was romantically linked to actress Ruffa Gutierrez for awhile, while Carmina was linked to Rustom. Shortly after 2000, when Carmina and Rustom already separated, Carmina and Zoren became neighbors and became close and eventually became a couple. | Made in USA label also popular in China, BCG survey says Posted: 15 Nov 2012 05:40 AM PST Items with label ‘Made in USA‘ are also popular in China, according to the latest survey of Boston Consulting Group (BCG), noting that more Chinese consumers prefer to buy items made in USA than those with ‘Made in China‘ label. The purpose of the survey, which was conducted last September, was to know their buying behavior.  Boston Consulting Group logo Image Credit: BGC.com According to a press release by BCG on their official website on Thursday, November 15, 2012, they made a survey to over 5,000 consumers from U.S., China, Germany, and France, resulting to more Americans and Chinese consumers saying that they are more willing to spend their money to US products than their own. As noted in the report, more than 80 percent of U.S. consumers said they will pay a premium for the Made in USA brand across a broad range of product categories, while more than 60 percent of the Chinese in the same survey had the same answer, with the premium considerably varying depending on the category. Based on the survey, almost 50 percent of Chinese consumers prefer a product labeled Made in the USA over products with the label ‘Made in China‘ with equivalent price and quality. Before the survey, more than half of them have chosen U.S.-made products over cheaper Chinese goods at least once in the month. In addition, around two-thirds of the U.S. consumers in the survey said they are willing to pay a premium for 10 key product categories that were tested, including baby food product, appliances, among others. In every category, BCG said at least 20 percent of U.S. consumers are willing to pay a premium of more than 10 percent. “These findings suggest that there’s a big opportunity for manufacturers and retailers to command a price premium by promoting the Made in USA brand—not only in the U.S. but also in China.” Harold Sirkin, a senior partner with BCG and co-author of the study, was quoted in a statement at BCG.com. “Retailers may want to adjust their strategies to capitalize on the strong consumer interest.” Sirkin added, with the survey being part of their ongoing study of the changing global economics of manufacturing and their Made in America, Again research series they started back in 2011. |
