Two news anchors based on Bangor, Maine resigned on air during the end of their 6:00 pm newscast on Tuesday, November 20, 2012.

According to reports, ABC 7 news anchors Cindy Michaels and Tony Consiglio resigned live on-air because they were both frustrated with management over journalistic practices.

“And finally tonight, this will be Tony and my final show together right here on ABC 7. The last six years have been an interesting and enjoyable time for us as we have been the longest-running news team in Bangor,” Michaels said during their live broadcast as shown in the video below.

“On behalf of Cindy and me, we have loved every moment bringing the news to you,” Consiglio said during their joint resignation. “Some recent developments have come to our attention, though, and departing together is the best alternative.”

The two anchors did not elaborate on air what triggered their resignation. However, they revealed it on local newspaper, Bangor Daily News.

“There was a constant disrespecting and belittling of staff. We both felt there was a lack of knowledge from ownership and upper management in running a newsroom to the extent that I was not allowed to structure and direct them professionally. I couldn’t do everything I wanted to as a news director. There was a regular undoing of decisions,” Michaels was quoted as saying by Bangor Daily News.

“It’s a culmination of ongoing occurrences that took place the last several years and basically involved upper-management practices that we both strongly disagreed with. It’s a little complicated, but we were expected to do somewhat unbalanced news, politically, in general,” she added.

Meanwhile, the station’s management has this to say:

“Upper management is not involved in the daily production of the news, period. We’ve made great changes over the last few months and are not slowing down. Over the last 15 to 18 months, we’ve been a raging locomotive of change,” Mike Palmer, WVII vice president and general manager, told the paper.

Walmart, Target, Kmart, Best Buy and other retailer stores had long been released their Black Friday Ads, offering tons of Black Friday Deals and Thanksgiving Deals.

Kiplinger.com, a Washington, D.C. based publisher of business forecasts and personal finance advice, has collected and compiled the 10 Hottest Black Friday Deals at big-box retailers in the United States.

Michael Brim, founder of BFAds.net told Kiplinger that “the prices on all the items on his list are confirmed and will be available in stores, but he can’t confirm whether the same deals will be available online.” He also added that “the prices may be higher in Wisconsin and Oklahoma, which have laws that prevent retailers from selling items at prices below what they paid for them.”

Below are the 10 Hottest Black Friday Deals as reported by Kiplinger in no particular order.

  • Proscan 32-inch 720p LCD HDTV$100 at Kmart. This item is not a branded name, but according to the Washington based publisher, shoppers won’t find a cheaper 32-inch TV.
  • Canon PowerShot A3400 IS 16-megapixel digital camera bundled with an SD card and case$90 at Target. Deal News reported that this offer is $29 lower than any other deal advertised for this camera this year.
  • Toshiba 40-inch 1080p LCD HDTV$179.99 at Best Buy. Regular price is usually about $350. This offer is the most popular deal at Best Buy. Shoppers will not find another deal for Toshiba with similar specifications at a low price, Brim told Kiplinger. However, he noted that “online shoppers will find the Toshiba at this low price on Amazon.com on Black Friday.”
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7-inch 8GB tablet with a $20 gift card$179.99 at Best Buy. According to Kiplinger, the price offer for this tablet is an all-time low with the $20 gift card that comes with the tablet.

  • Xbox 360 with Skylanders game$150 at Walmart. Dealnews.com says it has not seen the Xbox 360 this cheap since last Black Friday. “The console-and-game bundle is cheaper than the console alone and the game usually costs $65,” as stated by Brim in a report.
  • Samsung Galaxy S3 smart phone96 cents at Sam’s Club. This is an in-store offer only with a two-year contract to take advantage of.
  • Apple iPad2 16GB WiFi with $100 gift card$399 at Meijer. Walmart’s Black Friday offer for this is $399 with a $75 gift card plus a 1-hour guarantee for shoppers who visit from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thanksgiving day. However, Meijer took the lead of making the best offer for this iPad deal with their $100 gift card which is much higher than Walmart.
  • Dyson DC33 vacuum$250 at Sam’s Club. This same model is currently listed for $390 on Amazon.com, according to the report. Price this low is only offered to a refurbished Dyson DC33, not on a new item.

A new People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) ad promoting vegetarianism during Thanksgiving features Paul McCartney, international news sites reported on Friday, November 16, 2012.

In the ad as shown on this article, McCartney is wearing a T-shirt with the words printed “Eat No” followed by an image of a turkey below it. A message, “Say ‘No, Thanks’ to Turkey,” is printed followed by a “Go Vegetarian” message below.

According to reports, PETA will use the new campaign throughout the holiday season to promote meat-free holiday meals.

Paul McCartney reportedly said that he celebrates Thanksgiving with a veggie roast:

“We eat a veggie roast at home, so if we have traditional moments like Christmas … the roast is perfect. It’s completely vegetarian, but I can slice it, so I can do all my traditional dad things. We can do our family stuff with it, and it’s delicious, so I much prefer that to my memory of turkey,” McCartney was quoted as saying in a report.

According to PETA, more than 45 million turkeys die each year at Thanksgiving alone, and more than 22 million turkeys die during Christmas.

A black widow spider has been found in grapes bought from a local supermarket. Two incidents have been reported by international news sites on Friday, November 16 and on Saturday, November 17 about a black widow that has been found in grapes. One from Yarmouth, Massachusetts and the other from Coventry, Rhode Island.

Laurie Kaiser of Yarmouth said in a report that the bag of grapes had been in her refrigerator for nearly a week and she had been opening the bag, grabbing a handful of grapes off and closing the bag back up when on Wednesday she noticed a spider.

“I washed each clump before we ate it. In fact, it was as I was getting ready to rinse off a clump last night (Wednesday) that I saw the spider,” said Kaiser as quoted saying in a report.

Kaiser captured the spider in a plastic container and brought it back to the store where she bought the grapes to inform them.

The supermarket reportedly took the spider and gave her a refund and the manager said he would inform the distributor about the incident.

On the other hand, James Sylvia of Coventry, found the black widow while his wife and 1-year-old son were washing the grapes bought from Stop & Shop on Thursday morning.

“Next time you wash your grapes there may be a black widow spider, so you may want to be careful. It’s not really harmful to people my age group or a little older. It’s very harmful however towards children, and my son is 1 year old, and he and my wife were washing grapes in the sink inches from the spider,” Sylvia said in a report.

“They’re more common than you’d think but they’re not often encountered because of their secretive habits. They’re probably the most venomous spider in this region,” he added.

The supermarket reportedly released a statement saying that, “Due to consumer concerns around pesticides, they have been used less over the years which makes the fruit more attractive to insects … and that (Stop & Shop) works closely with its suppliers to ensure proper inspection and trains its (workers) to check grapes when stocking shelves.”

Black widow was said to be a venomous spider. According to Wikipedia, black widow’s “bite is dangerous because of the neurotoxin latrotoxin, which causes the condition latrodectism, both named for the genus. The female black widow has unusually large venom glands and its bite is particularly harmful to humans; however, Latrodectus bites rarely kill humans if proper medical treatment is provided.”

Meanwhile, there have been 60 reported deaths in the United States since 1950 that were bitten by the black widow.
