$1 billion Apple scheme: NY trader charged in Connecticut Apple stock fraud scheme Posted: 04 Dec 2012 03:21 PM PST A $1 billion Apple scheme by a New York trader was found to be an unauthorized purchase, according to federal prosecutors on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. Apple is the Cupertino, California-based company that provides iPods, iPhones and iPads. Apple Inc. stocks Image Credit: Google Finance Reports say that the $1 billion Apple scheme by David Miller, an institutional sales trader for Rochdale Securities LLC in Stamford, involves buying 1.6 million shares of Apple Inc. stocks last October, a day before the Cupertino company announced its financial results for its fiscal 2012 fourth quarter ended September 29, 2012. Miller hopes to personally earn from the Apple stocks he bought if price per share increases, but his scheme fell flat as the Apple stock value declined after the fiscal earnings announcement. Instead of earning from the his Apple stock trade scheme, Miller‘s Connecticut-based employer reportedly lost $5 million after it traded out. In defending himself, Miller said that he only ordered 1,625 shares instead of the millions previously stated. Authorities however said that Miller falsely claimed his mistake of ordering millions of stocks as stated in a client’s order. According to reports, Miller told Rochdale that he was just executing a customer order. Prosecutors say that this is a clear misrepresentation by the sales trader as the customer was at risk of loss if the trade proved unprofitable and that he knew that it was his company will shoulder the risk of loss. Due to his unauthorized Apple scheme, Miller was charged with wire fraud. The 40-year-old Miller, from Rockville Centre, New York, appeared before the US District Court in Bridgeport. He did not enter a plea on Tuesday and is now out on a $300,000 bond. Reports say that Miller could end up serving up to 20 years in prison if found guilty as charged. |
Forbes’ Most Overpaid Actor 2012 in Hollywood is Eddie Murphy (Top 10 List) Posted: 04 Dec 2012 10:25 AM PST The most overpaid actor in Hollywood for 2012 is Eddie Murphy, according to Forbes, which released its Top 10 Most Overpaid Actors list on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. Murphy, 51, also led the list of Forbes‘ Top 10 Most Overpaid Actors list last year, tied with Drew Barrymore. Eddie Murphy in ‘Tower Heist’ movie Image Credit: Universal Pictures As noted by Forbes, the last three films of Eddie Murphy such as ‘Imagine That, A Thousand Words,’ ‘Meet Dave,’ and ‘Tower Heist,’ which was released in November 2011, were all considered as flop films. The three of them had an average of $2.30 at the box office for every $1 paid to him. According to the report, ‘Tower Heist‘ was aimed to be a comeback movie for Murphy, who backed out from hosting the 2012 Oscars, but it only earned $153 million. Its estimated production budget was $75 million, plus a couple of millions more for the marketing of the film, wherein a film should earn at least twice to call it a profit. On the other hand, Katherine Heigl, who is a first timer in this Forbes‘ list, landed on the second spot. Her last three movies were estimated to have made an average of $3.40 at the box office for every $1 paid to her, with Forbes noting that they now used the data from the last three films, instead of the usual last five films. Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon, whose last three movies were estimated to have made an average of $3.90 at the box office for every $1 paid to her, landed on the third spot on this year’s list. Her 2010 film ‘How Do You Know‘ reportedly made only $49 million at the box office, but had a $120 million production budget. Sandra Bullock, who won the Oscar‘s Best Actress award in 2009 for the movie ‘The Blind Side,’ which is also a box-office hit, landed on the fourth spot. Apparently, Forbes noted that her 2009 movie ‘All About Steve‘ and 2011′s ‘Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close‘ did not earned much in the box-office. Jack Black, whose recent films include ‘Bernie‘ and ‘The Big Year‘ reportedly had an average return of only $5.20 for every $1 he was paid, landed on the fifth spot. The rest of Top 10 Most Overpaid Actors for 2012 are Nicolas Cage, Adam Sandler, Denzel Washington, Ben Stiller, and Sarah Jessica Parker. |

He can be seen like holding the card with his two hands, but his real right hand is hidden behind it. As people stop to give him money, Ferguson surprises them by revealing his “magical” hand through the sign and grabs their arms. Apparently, different ‘victims’ showed different reactions. Some were shocked and confused, while most of them screamed to the top of their voices but later laughed. The three-handed magician have fooled a couple of passersby via his prank hand, but the most notable victim can be seen on the last part of the video, where a young man was so scared and immediately run away. He was even almost hit by a slow-moving car, as he crossed the street with fear. On the same day, Ferguson also uploaded another YouTube video, where he posed a snowman in front of a shopping store with a “Happy Holiday” greeting sign. As customers pass by to enter the store, he drops the sign. They pick it up and put it back to the snowman’s hand, and that is the time they are being surprised. Report by the China Daily explained that based on historical data, “Emperor Qin Shihuang planned the construction of his cemetery soon after he was enthroned, and the large cemetery and mausoleum showed that he wanted to continue his imperial life after his death.” At 13-years-old, Ying Zheng reportedly became emperor of Qin and “took over the affairs of the state at age 22. By 211 BC, he annexed six rival principalities and established the first feudal empire in Chinese history.” |
