They were supposed to go to Mildura, which is around 70 kilometers (almost 43.5 miles) away from that park. As noted in the report, Mildura Police earlier confirmed that Apple Maps is listing the direction of the said park on their iPhones, if Mildura, a regional city in northwestern Victoria, is being searched. Some of the motorists they have located were stranded for up to 24 hours without food or water. “Police are extremely concerned as there is no water supply within the Park and temperatures can reach as high as 46 degrees, making this a potentially life threatening issue.” A statement reads at VicPoliceNews.com.au, adding that those people have walked very far just to get a good phone signal. Victoria Police added that they have already informed Apple on the said problem using Apple Maps, hoping that the same situation will never happen again. Apple CEO Tim Cook or any company representative has not issued any formal statement on this issue, as of this writing. Apple released the iOS 6 last September 16, which has new features including the upgraded Apple Maps. However, a lot of of users complained on some problems such as lacking of public transit directions and misplaced landmarks. Cook later apologized and recommended other maps such as from Bing, Nokia, and Google. “With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.” Tim Cook wrote on his apology letter that time, which was posted at Apple.com. |
Posted: 10 Dec 2012 03:49 AM PST 2Day FM radio personalities Mel Greig and Michael Christian spoke publicly for the first time after the reported death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who received the prank call from the two Australian DJs and transferred it to Kate Middleton‘s room, which was received by one of her nurses. The two DJs talked on how the idea of the King Edward VII Hospital prank call started and apologized for the result. Last Tuesday, December 4, Mel Greig impersonated Queen Elizabeth and Michael Christian imitated Prince Charles and had a successful call to the said hospital. Nurse Jacintha Saldanha received the prank call since there was no receptionist on duty that time, and the conversation with Kate‘s nurse was aired on radio. On Thursday, Saldanha 46, who was been working at King Edward VII Hospital for four years as a nurse, was found dead near the hospital at around 9:30 a.m. (London time). The cause of death has not been announced as of this writing, but is being speculated to be an apparent suicide. “Prank calls have been around for years. We’ve done many a prank call before. It’s the same thing, you prank someone, you record it, and then it goes to the other departments to work out what they want to do with it. It’s been done for years. It was routine for us. There wasn’t anything different.” Greig said in the interview. “I don’t think anyone could have foreseen where this would go. No-one could have predicted this at all. It’s just really tragic. It was the worst phone call I have ever had in my life.” Mel Greig said, when Grimshaw asked her feelings after learning that Saldanha, who is from India, is a mother of two. “Shattered, gutted, heartbroken and obviously, you know, our deepest sympathies are with the families and the friends of all those affected. And you know, Mel and myself are incredibly sorry for this situation and what’s happened and we hope they’re doing okay and they’re getting the love and support they need right now. Personally I’m gutted.” Christian said. “Prank calls are made every day on every radio station in every country around the world. They have been for a long time. No-one could have foreseen no-one could have imagines this would happen. We just hope that her family and friends are as good as they can be and they’re getting the love and support they deserve and naturally we’re shattered. We’re people, too.” Christian added.
