Chimp Victim Gets $4 Million On Settlement Agreement

According to reports, a lawsuit had been filed by Nash‘s brother on her behalf in 2009 demanding for $50 million in damages from the animal’s owner, Sandra Herold, who died in 2010. Nash lost both hands, blinded and underwent a face transplant after being attacked in February 2009.

“I think it was a fair compromise on all sides,” Attorney Brenden Leydon, representing Herold‘s estate, reportedly said.

Meanwhile, Charles Willinger, the lawyer of Nash said that the amount is insignificant.

“The money that we have obtained for Charla is an insignificant amount in the scene of things. It won't nearly address her medical needs and her other lifestyle needs, not to mention pain and suffering. That is why we will pursue the entity we think is most culpable, the Energy and Environmental Protection Department of Connecticut, for allowing Sandra Herold to possess the chimp in the first place, ” Willinger was quoted as saying.

The settlement agreement calls for Herold‘s estate to provide Nash with $3.4 million in real estate, $140,000 in machinery and equipment, $331,000 in cash, and $44,000 in vehicles, reports said.

According to reports, the comics that come with every stick of Bazooka, starring Bazooka Joe and his sidekick, Mort, are being replaced with puzzles, brainteasers and codes that when entered to their website BazookaJoe.com, will unlock contents like videos and video games.

Reports said that Bazooka Joe and Mort will appear only occasionally as illustrations in the new inserts, but without the corny jokes of the three-panel comic strips.

“Instead of a cheesy joke, we wanted to have a fun, engaging activity for kids, but the purpose wasn't to not include Bazooka Joe… To me it is all about doing one thing really well, and that is refreshing the Bazooka brand,” Anthony Trani, vice president of marketing at Bazooka Candy Brands, was quoted as saying by The New York Times.

The Bazooka Joe gum comics first appeared in 1953, reports said.

As noted at WPBF.com on Friday, November 30, 2012, BMI Elite CEO Brandon Rosen and company President Dan Lansman surprised Chris Ninos last Tuesday with a new car, noting that it is just one way to show their employees that they are being taken cared of for their hard work.

“He’s been driving the same car, I think, since I’ve known him, which is about almost 11 years now, and he’s been talking about getting a new car and just not wanting to do something for himself like that,” Lansman was quoted telling to WPBF field reporter who was present when they gave Ninos his new car.

Apparently, the company also prepared a video, with Brandon Rosen can be seen on the first part sharing the benefits they give to their employees, including bringing them to the Bahamas every Christmas. He also praised Ninos for going to work even before office hours and being one of the employees who goes home last.

Later, Rosen can be seen interviewing some of the BMI Elite employees on their opinion about Ninos, who also happens to be celebrating his 52nd birthday that day. All of those interviewed have good words on him, citing his being a hardworking, trustworthy, and a very dedicated employee to the company.

On the latter part of the video, Ninos arrives into the office and was surprised by Rosen, who gave him the keys to his new 2013 Ford Escape. The employees gave him a warm welcome of applause, as he went nearer to his new car and sat on the driver’s seat, and he was shocked for the gift he received.

“This is completely out of left field. I did not even expect this. I am speechless. This is unbelievable.” Ninos said during the news interview, adding he was earlier told that he was supposed to pick up his boss from their office, which did not turn out that way.

As noted by Baltimore Sun on Friday, November 30, 2012, Donald Hill-Eley said he received the email on Tuesday night. Morgan State athletic director Floyd Kerr has already apologized to him about the accidentally forwarded email, but he did officially tell him about the school’s plans to replace him.

According to the report, Hill-Eley, who has been the coach of the Morgan State Bears for 11 seasons and had led the team to a 54-69 record, said he has no idea that he will be fired, not until he accidentally got a copy of the email, which contains the schedule of interviewing possible replacement to him by mid-December.

“I don’t know what’s going on.” Hill-Eley, who became the Morgan State coach on February 8, 2002, was quoted telling to the paper via phone interview, with the announcement of the new coach being expected this coming January. The team has suffered from three straight losing seasons and had fallen to 3-8 this year.

“He said the expectations had changed. But the input didn’t change, so how do you expect things to change on Saturday?” Hill-Eley added, referring to Morgan State University president David Wilson, whom he said he had a recent conversation. The Bears only finished eighth in the recent Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Meanwhile, Kerr has not yet released any formal announcement on the firing of Hill-Eley, 46, who is the third-winningest coach in Morgan State history. Eddie P. Hurt led the team from 1929 to 1959 and won 14 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championships. Earl Banks won four CIAA championships in the 1960s.

Ohio Sinkhole in Dover Could Grow Larger (Video)

The Ohio sinkhole that collapsed a 200-foot-long stretch of land along the State Highway 516 in Dover, may continue to grow, according to local officials on Saturday, December 1, 2012.

Traffic has been closed down after the sinkhole collapsed an area compared to four football fields that stretched into the roadway. Officials say that too much load in the highway may collapse other areas.

Reports say that the sand dredging being done by Newton Asphalt Company about 50 feet below the surface may have been the cause of the sinkhole.

According to District 11 Director Lloyd McAdam, he “worked for the [Ohio Department of Transportation District] 16 years and I’ve never seen anything of this magnitude.” He added that “It’s very unusual that something like this would happen.”

McAdam explained that the Newton Asphalt Company “dredging took away the bottom of the slope and that probably eroded away and started cascading down, and just started filling the hole and filling the hole.”

Local officials are hoping that the Ohio sinkhole can be fixed in a few days. The highway remains closed indefinitely to avoid aggravating the sinkhole.

According to reports, Thomas Floyd Kennedy was snorkeling at about 250 yards from the shore of Kihei, Hawaii, on Friday, November 30, when a 10-foot shark bit his left calf. It happened at about 9:30 am, Hawaii Standard Time.

“I started kicking. I started heading for my board, which I could see. I was just moving along in a straight line and suddenly (I) felt a sensation, something big grabbing me on the leg and turned, obviously it was a shark, I could see its left eye and part of its sort of face and head. (Then) it released me,” Kennedy told Maui News of his experience.

“I started swimming as fast as I could. . . . Obviously I wanted to get out of the water. I kept watching behind; I was concerned it would come back again,” Kennedy added.

Kennedy sustained deep leg laceration but still remained conscious. He was brought to shore and treated by lifeguards. He was then transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The beach from Kamaole III to Waipuilani Park is now closed after the Hawaii shark attack, reports said.

The San Antonio Spurs was fined $250,000 by the NBA for sending home four of its top players before their game against the Miami Heat on Thursday, November 29, 2012, according to a report at NBA.com.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich decided to rest several players that include Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Danny Green.

San Antonio lost a close game against the Miami, 100-105.

In a statement, the NBA clarified that the fine was based on a violation of a league policy, “reviewed with the NBA Board of Governors in April 2010, against resting players in a manner contrary to the best interests of the NBA.”

Before the Spurs-Heat game, NBA Commissioner David Stern expressed his displeasure on Popovich‘s decision on Thursday night and promised to give “substantial sanctions.” Below is Stern‘s issued statement.

The result here is dictated by the totality of the facts in this case. The Spurs decided to make four of their top players unavailable for an early-season game that was the team's only regular-season visit to Miami. The team also did this without informing the Heat, the media, or the league office in a timely way. Under these circumstances, I have concluded that the Spurs did a disservice to the league and our fans.

Sports analysts expected the hefty fine because they know that the league wants to send a message to all NBA teams that such actions will not be tolerated.

According to the New York Post on Friday, November 30, 2012, Derek Jeter was spotted at a hotel on South Beach in Miami on Thursday, wearing a walking boot on his left foot as a protection for his broken ankle. He underwent a surgery last October 20 and is being expected to need 4 to 5 months to fully recover.

As noted in the report, Brian Cashman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the New York Yankees, said that Jeter now lacks regular exercise and he cannot put any weight on his injured foot, causing him to gain weight, with his built now a bit far from his usual physique.

“I saw that the picture said he was heavy. I can’t tell you he is heavy. Even if he was, I’m not worried about Derek Jeter in that capacity in any way. You are not going to find anybody more committed to being the best he can be than Derek Jeter.” Cashman was quoted at ESPN.com when he saw the photo on the newspaper.

“You can’t speed up the healing process. Right now, the doctors’ orders are rest. So I have no worries about Derek Jeter. There is nothing about Derek Jeter that I have to worry other than rest.” Cashman added, noting that the 38-year old five-time World Series champion is doing well on his recovery.

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 09:07 PM PST

The so-called North Korea unicorns lair discovery has been recently reconfirmed by Korean archeologists, based on the report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Thursday, November 29, 2012. King Tongmyong (B.C. 277-A.D. 668) rode the unicorn, based on Korea’s history books.

According to a report at KNCA.co.jp that day, History Institute of the DPRK Academy of Social Sciences director Jo Hui Sung told them that “the lair is located 200 meters from the Yongmyong Temple in Moran Hill in Pyongyang City.” King Tongmyong is noted to be the founder of the Koguryo Kingdom.

As noted in the report, a rectangular rock carved with words “Unicorn Lair” stands in front of the lair, which have been carved back to the period of Koryo Kingdom (918-1392). The discovery of the said unicorn lair is being linked with the proof that Pyongyang was a capital city of Ancient Korea as well as Koguryo Kingdom.

Ulmil Pavilion is on the top of Mt. Kumsu, with Yongmyong Temple, one of Pyongyang‘s eight scenic spots, beneath it. The temple served as a relief palace for King Tongmyong, in which there is the lair of his unicorn.” KNCA noted, quoting the Sogyong (Pyongyang) chapter of the old book ‘Koryo History‘ (geographical book).

“The old book ‘Sinjungdonggukyojisungnam’ (Revised Handbook of Korean Geography) complied in the 16th century wrote that there is a lair west of Pubyok Pavilion in Mt. Kumsu.” The report added.
