It took more than a year before the five-story house of Luo Baogen was removed from the center of a new road in the eastern Zhejiang province of China. The road links the city to a new railway station.

Demolition was delayed as Luo refused to leave the house, unless he receives the compensation he wants. He was the only one, out of 459 household owners, who rejected a relocation plan.

The 67-year-old duck farmer explained that his newly built home is worth more than $95,000. Officials initially offered $35,000 but Luo declined.

On Saturday, the offer was raised to $41,000, which Luo readily accepted as bulldozers started to closed-in on his house.

A report by Xinhua news agency said that Luo and his family transferred to a relocation area on Saturday.

In a statement, Luo explained that “It was never a final solution for us to live in a lone house in the middle of the road. After the government’s explanations, I finally decided to move.”
