A 7.3 magnitude earthquake hits eastern coast of Japan, near Sendai, Honshu, this Friday, December 7, 2012, and the Japan Meteorological Agency immediately issued a tsunami warning. There were no immediate reports of casualties and damage to properties, as of this writing.

As noted by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) on its official website, the location of this latest Japan earthquake occurred at 08:18:24.32 UTC today, Friday (5:18 p.m. Japan time) and had a depth of 36.1 kilometers (22.4miles).

According to USGS, the center of this 7.3 magnitude earthquake is located at 176 miles (284 km) E of Sendai, Honshu, Japan; 184 miles (296 km) ENE of Iwaki, Honshu, Japan; 198 miles (319 km) E of Fukushima, Honshu, Japan; 285 miles (459 km) NE of Tokyo, Japan.

Meanwhile, Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for the coast of Miyagi Prefecture, which was badly hit by the earthquake and tsunami back in March 2011. A tsunami advisory was issued for Iwate Prefecture, Pacific Coast of Aomori Prefecture, Fukushima Prefecture, and Ibaraki Prefecture.

ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Company) reporter North Asia correspondent Mark Willacy has been tweeting the latest developments of this Japan earthquake, saying that workers at Fukushima nuclear plant ordered to evacuate after tsunami warning was issued, but no big wave is being forecast to hit Fukushima.

“Reports Sendai airport closed (was inundated during last year’s quake). Flights redirected to Tokyo as a precaution.” Mark Willacy (@markwillacy) tweeted, with ABC News reporting that a series of aftershocks were felt in the affected areas, including those with magnitudes 6.2 and 5.3.

Pantone Color of the Year 2013: Pantone 17-5641 Emerald

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 12:18 AM PST

Pantone 17-5641 Emerald was chosen as the new Color of the Year for 2013, according to Pantone LLC‘s official website at www.pantone.com. The top hue selection by Pantone is reportedly a “lively, radiant, lush green.”

Emerald 17-5641, with its “rich and vibrant shade”, will be replacing the 2012 Pantone Color of the Year, Tangerine Tango.

Annually, Pantone selects a color that they expect to be popular for the upcoming year.

Reports say that Pantone is a company that “creates and matches colors for the fashion, home and beauty industries, among others.” The X-Rite company is reportedly a global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries.

According to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute, green color “has been so strong, upcoming through the ’90s as we’re paying attention to nature, so the family isn’t new, but what we needed to look at and revisit was the psychological background: Emerald is such a balanced color, and balance is something to pick up on and listen to.” Eiseman added that green is, “a color of growth, renewal, healing, unity and regeneration — words we’re all so in need of at this point of history.”

Among the fashion stores that already adapted to Emerald green for 2013 include Michael Kors, Nanette Lepore and Vivienne Tam.

Eiseman explained that green complements everything in the home category since it can be paired with several hue that include tan, black, blue and yellow.

Margarita Arriagada, Senior Vice President of merchandising at Sephora expects emerald green to be a popular eye shadow, liner, mascara and nail polish due to its “passionate color, and it gives our client a lot of wearability.”

“Yes, it’s true folks. Ivory and I are splitting up. It’s really sad. I’m really sad. I think you may have been able to tell in some recent songs. It’s going to be a hard road ahead for me, but I know that this is the right decision and that eventually we’ll both be happier in the end.” Mann wrote on the video description.

“I just want to say, thanks for being out there, watching my stuff and commenting and sending me messages. Your support and love during this time of crisis in my life means so, so much.” Mann added, with the complete original song lyrics also written on the video description.

On the early part of the song, Jonathan can be heard singing that he wants to have kids but Ivory says she does not want to have a baby. Mann, who describes the song We’ve Got To Break Up as Song # 1435, and also inviting viewers to follow him on his social networking pages and podcasts.

On the other hand, Ivory emphasized on their song she really do not want to have kids despite Jonathan wishing that she will change her mind someday. Later, the couple stated on their breakup song that they still care about each other, and that they just want to tell their friends that they already have split.

“And breaking up’s a mess/So please be there for us/You don’t have to choose/Though it’ll be awkward, yes/Invite us to your parties/We will work it out/Don’t feel weird/We love all of you/After 5 whole years/By each other’s side/There are just somethings/No relationship can survive.” The couple sings, along with a few dance moves.

Ellen Degeneres ad for JC Penny Christmas promo hit by One Million Moms watchdog group (Video)

An Ellen Degeneres ad for JC Penny‘s Christmas promo, as shown in the video below, is now being criticized by a conservative media watch group called One Million Moms. Their complaint was reportedly posted on their official website on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, but the link provided is now broken.

As noted at NBC‘s The Clicker this Thursday, December 6, talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres appeared in the JC Penny Christmas commercial, and talks to three Santa Claus’ elves on the opposite side of the dining table inside a restaurant in the “North Pole.” Ellen can be seen wearing a pair of holiday-themed gloves and hat.

On the said TV ad, Ellen is explaining to the elves the JC Penny Christmas contest, wherein customers can earn a button with each purchase, noting that each button contains codes that can be used to claim the gifts online. But on the latter part, the 54-year old comedian cracked a joke pertaining to the “small people.”

“I know this is no small feat. Well, it’s a big deal.” Ellen told the elves, who seem thinking on how they should react. Later, she changes the subject by asking them, “Who wants a cookie?” The JC Penny Christmas ad ended with the company briefly explaining the details of their holiday giveaway.

“Since April, JC Penney‘s has not aired Ellen DeGeneres in one of their commercials until now. A new JCP ad features Ellen and three elves. JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again. Christians must now vote with their wallets.” One Million Moms was quoted in a statement.

Last February, One Million Moms, which is a project of the American Family Association (AFA), a US non-profit organization that promotes conservative fundamentalist Christian values, and is a noted anti-LGBT activist, posted on their website their concern with DeGeneres being a JC Penny spokesperson.

“Funny that JC Penney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families. DeGeneres is not a true representation of the type of families that shop at their store.” A statement reads at OneMillionMoms.com that time.

BMW Recall 2012: BMW recalls 35,000 X5 SUVs due to steering problem

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 08:18 PM PST

BMW announced a voluntary recall affecting certain model-year 2009 through 2012 X5 xDrive 35d SAV diesel SUVs due to steering problem, which may fail and cause loss of power steering assist, and may result to car crash. This latest BMW recall involves 35,000 units in the US and Canada.

According to the announcement by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on its official website on Thursday, December 6, 2012, around 29,800 vehicles in the US are affected by the recall, which were manufactured from September 1, 2008, through November 15, 2012.

As noted in the report, the engine belt idler pulley bolt in the recalled BMW models could loosen and eventually break over time. if this will occur, the vehicle may lose the power assist to the steering, increasing the risk of a crash. No related accidents or injuries were reported in both territories.

In a report at the New York Times on the same day, this BMW recall in the US was triggered by the problem that originated in Canada last year, in which an investigation was conducted by Transport Canada earlier this year. BMW spokesman Matthew Russell sent an email to them, saying that he was not aware of any related accidents.

Meanwhile, BMW USA noted that they will inform affected customers starting January 2013, and that BMW dealers will replace defective bolts, without extra charge. Dealers are also being set to add a coating that will help prevent the bolts from being loosen.

For more information about this latest BMW recall, affected US costumers are being advised to call BMW at 1-800-525-7417, or contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration‘s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
