A group of astronomers recently released the so-called universe’s baby picture, shown in the photo below. The said image was accomplished after nine years of data gathering made by the science team of Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP), which retired in October 2010.

According to a report at Space.com on Friday, December 21, 2012, the detailed, all-sky image of the new ‘baby picture’ of the universe maps the hot temperature of the radiation that was left over from the Big Bang, at a time when the universe was only 375,000 years old, a small fraction of its current age of around 13.77 billion years.

As noted in the report, the universe’s latest ‘baby picture’ shows a plus-or-minus 200 microKelvin range of temperature with changes in the so-called cosmic microwave background radiation that appears in the differences in its colors, which allowed the astronomers to predict what most likely have happened earlier.

“We are just a speck in the vastness of the universe, so it is amazing that we have the ability to answer fundamental questions about the vast universe around us, but the WMAP team has done just that,” Charles Bennett, a Johns Hopkins University astrophysicist and the leader of the the team, told the paper.

“It was possible because we can detect and study the ancient light, the oldest light in the universe. The universe encoded its autobiography in the microwave patterns we observe across the whole sky. When we decoded it, the universe revealed its history and contents.” Bennett added.

As noted at NASA.gov, the WMAP spacecraft was launched on June 30, 2001 from Florida and was developed in a joint partnership between Princeton University and the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The addition of Wilkinson was made in 2003, in honor of cosmologist David Todd Wilkinson, who was once a member of the mission’s science team and passed away in 2002.

Apparently, among the other revelations revealed from the data from WMAP reportedly include a much more nearly accurate estimate of how old now is the universe, as well the confirmation that around 95 percent of the universe is composed of “stuff” dubbed as dark matter and dark energy.

Singer Rihanna donates $1.75 million to a hospital in her home country in Barbados, to honor the memory of her late grandmother, Clara Braithwaite, whom she calls Gran Gran Dolly and has passed away last summer after a battle with cancer. This apparently proves that the ‘Bad Girl’ singer also has a soft spot on her heart.

According to E! News this Saturday, December 22, 2012, Rihanna, who was born in Saint Michael, Barbados on February 20, 1988, recently generously donated $1.75 million to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, the capital and largest city of Barbados.

“This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy; by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program…I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend them.” Rihanna was quoted in a statement.

“Goodbye #grangranDOLLY get your beauty rest until I see you.” Rihanna (@rihanna) tweeted last July 1, and posted some photos of herself with her grandmother intimate photos of herself and her ailing grandmother. That time, she received a lot of condolences including that from ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.

Shortly after her death, Rihanna paid tribute to her by getting a tattoo just above her ribcage, a feathered Egyptian goddess Iris, who was dubbed as a champion of the oppressed, a protector of the dead and the goddess of children. That time, she posted a PG-13 photo at Instagram revealing her new tattoo.

“She was a well-rounded woman. She taught me a lot about forgiveness, loving my enemies, spirituality, [and] strength as a woman.” The 24-year old ‘Where Have You Been’ singer told Oprah in an interview back in August, sharing what she learned from her grandmother, describing her as one of the greatest people she had ever known.

Meanwhile, Bridgetown‘s Queen Elizabeth Hospital will be renamed the Clara Braithwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, in honor of Rihanna‘s grandmother.

The identity of the new Star Trek villain has been finally revealed; more than two weeks after Paramount Pictures released the official Star Trek Into Darkness teaser announcement video. Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams and movie villain actor Benedict Cumberbatch were recently interviewed in Japan.

According to TrekMovie.com on Saturday, December 22, 2012, J.J. Abrams was interviewed by GyaO! of Japan and talked about the role of Benedict Cumberbatch in the upcoming Star Trek movie. He revealed the Cumberbatch will play the role of John Harrison, and not Khan as earlier rumored. So who is John Harrison?

“He (John Harrison) is sort of an average – that is what makes him so scary – he is just an average guy who works in an organization called Starfleet, and he turns against the group because he has got this back-story and this kind of amazing secret agenda.” J.J. Abrams was quoted s saying during the GyaO! interview.

J.J. Abrams also emphasized that those who will watch the Star Trek Into Darkness movie is not required to watch the first movie Star Trek, which was released on May 8, 2009 and reportedly made nearly $385.5 million in the worldwide box office with a budget of around $150 million.

“The characters are a group of people who have recently come together and find themselves up against this incredibly terrifying force.” Abrams added, who was with Benedict Cumberbatch and Chris Pine (who plays Captain James T. Kirk in the movie) went to Tokyo a couple of weeks ago to promote the new Star Trek movie, which is being set for release on May 17, 2013.

JJ described the role in movie terms as a mixture of Hannibal Lector, Jack in the Shining and The Joker in Batman. There are sorts of levels to pitch in amongst quite a high bar as well to succeed in comparison to. It was a framework to understand this character before I saw the whole script.” Cumberbatch told GyaO!

“I would say he is three dimensional in a way that he has a purpose, unlike the villains can sometimes go in franchises where it is just the obstacle – just this immovable thing this entity in the way or destroying what the good guys do. This person has real purpose behind his actions – his intention.” Cumberbatch added.
