| Sheen Gives $75K To Kid To Help Her Fight Cancer Posted: 11 Dec 2012 03:42 PM PST Charlie Sheen recently gave a kid $75,000 to help her fight cancer, celebrity news sites and blogs reported on Tuesday, December 11, 2012.  Charlie Sheen Image Credit: Biography.com According to reports, Sheen was talking with a Hermosa Beach, California cop when he learned about another cop whose 10-year-old daughter, Jasmine Faulk, was diagnosed with Childhood Rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer of the muscle tissue. Reports said that such cancer requires more than a year of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. “No parent should have to watch their kid go through that,” Sheen reportedly said. He cut a check worth $75k the next day for the Hermosa Beach Police Station to help Jasmine. The said police station started a fund drive for Jasmine. Meanwhile, Sheen‘s stunt double, Eddie Braun, followed him and gave an additional $25,000, an act which others say is more impressive since he does not make as much money as Sheen. The family is extremely grateful for the donation, reports said. |

| Angry Birds movie release in 2016 confirmed, John Cohen as producer, Rovio to finance project Posted: 11 Dec 2012 08:57 AM PST The Angry Birds movie will be released in summer 2013, as announced by Rovio Entertainment this Tuesday, December 11, 2012, along with the confirmation that ‘Despicable Me’ producer John Cohen has already signed as its producer. The exact date of the Angry Birds movie release was not mentioned.  Angry Birds Image Credit: Rovio Entertainment According to a post at Rovio.com that day, the upcoming Angry Birds film will be released in 3D and that David Maisel, former Chairman of Marvel Studios and executive producer of ‘Iron Man‘ will act as executive producer of the said movie, which will be financed by Rovio Entertainment. “John‘s an exceptionally talented producer, and we’re delighted to have him join the flock.” Rovio Entertainment CEO Mikael Hed was quoted in the announcement, with the Angry Birds game now celebrating its third anniversary since its release back in December 2011. “With John‘s hands-on producer background and David‘s expertise in establishing and running his own successful studio, these two are the dream team for making a movie outside the studio system. Both professionals have the ideal skills and vision to achieve incredible things.” Hed added. “I’m so excited and honored to be working on this film with Mikael, David, and Rovio‘s incredibly talented game developers and artists. | Escalator and train station slips caught on CCTV released, to remind people to be careful (Video) Posted: 11 Dec 2012 07:53 AM PST Three incidents of escalator and train station slips that were caught on CCTV were compiled in one video, as shown below. This is to remind people to be careful while traveling, particularly in train stations. The YouTube video was created by Network Rail, a UK railway network. Later, a woman bringing along her luggage slipped on the floor; and two women playing around the pole but fell on the ground. All of them received immediate help from passersby and fellow passengers. According to a post at NetworkRailMediaCentre.co.uk today, this Tuesday, December 11, 2012, their latest data showed that almost a hundred people were involved in slips, trips, or falls between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012 at Leeds Station, in West Yorkshire, England. As noted in the report, the RSSB (Rail Safety and Standards Board) supplied them the data of slips, trips, or falls in all British train stations for the said dates, which had a total of 3,118. One thousand and one hundred twenty of them happened in stairs and five hundred twelve of them occurred in escalators. “Our station team at Leeds is working around the clock to help passengers get home safe. We’re keeping concourses dry and clean and signposting lifts clearly for those with heavy luggage.” Phil Verster, Route Managing Director for Network Rail, was quoted in the report. “We need everyone’s help – please plan ahead so you don’t end up rushing to catch your train – falling over could be a miserable end to an enjoyable evening.” Verster added, with the report noting that one third of all the accidents Leeds Station happened on Fridays and Saturdays. Meanwhile, the RSSB data also shows that 1,158 of the incidents (or 37%) of slip, trip or fall happened between 5 pm and 2.30 am, 1488 occurred in the concourse, 899 on a platform, and 425 involved people running or rushing to reach the train on time. In his Twitter post, the 54-year-old Ice-T shared his disgust over her wife’s photo. Ice-T‘s deleted tweet reportedly reads: “Most of [the pics are] disrespectful and in bad taste. She's made me look and feel like sh*t. 'I say this on Twitter because there's no way to avoid the obvious misconduct of a married couple.That's it. Any more questions ask [my wife].” A now deleted Instagram photo showed the 33-year-old Austin with her eyes closed being kissed by AP.9 on her cheek. In addition, HSBC noted that they will continue to cooperate fully with regulatory and law enforcement authorities, and will provide further action to strengthen its compliance policies and procedures, noting that they have already spent over $290 million on remedial measures over the past several years. “We accept responsibility for our past mistakes. We have said we are profoundly sorry for them, and we do so again. The HSBC of today is a fundamentally different organization from the one that made those mistakes.” HSBC Group Chief Executive Stuart Gulliver was quoted at HSBC.com. “Over the last two years, under new senior leadership, we have been taking concrete steps to put right what went wrong and to participate actively with government authorities in bringing to light and addressing these matters.” Gulliver added, who was appointed in his post on January 1, 2011. “While we welcome the clarity that these agreements bring, ensuring the highest standards wherever we do business is an ongoing process. We are committed to protecting the integrity of the global financial system. To this end we will continue to work closely with governments and regulators around the world.” Gulliver further said. Among the other measures that HSBC Group has mentioned to improve their leadership and strategies include simplifying its control structure, allowing them to manage risks worldwide more effectively, and issuing a new global sanctions policy using a more extensive and consistent set of lists to screen all cross-border payments. |
| NHL games cancelled until December 30 over labor dispute Posted: 10 Dec 2012 11:36 PM PST The National Hockey League (NHL) announced on Monday, December 10, 2012 that the NHL games until Sunday, December 30, 2012 have been cancelled, following the announcement of the league last October cancelling their games until November 30, 2012, as part of the ongoing NHL lockout.  NHL fan, carrying a placard, requesting the end of NHL lockout Image Credit: Jared Wickerham According to a post at NHL.com that day, the said NHL 2012-13 regular-season games were cancelled after the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the NHL was not met again. As noted in the report, NHL has already cancelled a total of 526 regular-season games, or 42.8 percent of the season, which were scheduled from October 11 through December 30, 2012. The 2013 NHL All-Star Weekend set for January 26-27, 2013, as well as the 2013 Winter Classic games were canceled earlier. Shortly after the announcement, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly sent an email to the New York Daily News, saying that “he does not anticipate any owners participating” the next time the league and players’ union will meet. The NHL players will be missing 13 paychecks for the games, including the cancelled games until December 30. Daly noted that no schedule of future talks over the labor dispute was finalized, but the league and union are hopeful to reconvene this week to settle the issues, and that the players will attend the next negotiation meeting even if owners will not. Last Thursday, NHLPA Executive Director Don Fehr said in press conference that a deal between the team owners and players association is likely to be reached. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters that he is expecting to save at least 48 games, the same length of the season after the 1994-95 NHL lockout. |

And that’s really what Christmas is all about.” Mr. Obama added, who was joined by US First Lady Michelle Obama. “So yes, tonight is about Conan and Diana Ross and Santa and all the other talented folks on this stage. But it’s also about the Americans who are spending this holiday in a hospital bed, or a shelter, or protecting our freedom on a battlefield far from home.” The US President said further. | Tracy McGrady taunted by Chinese basketball player; throws elbow on opponent’s chest (Video) Posted: 10 Dec 2012 07:07 PM PST Former NBA player Tracy McGrady, also known as T-Mac, was taunted by a Chinese basketball player, and later threw his left elbow on his opponent’s chest, as shown in the video below. The incident happened during a Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) game this Sunday, December 9, 2012. He was seen being taunted by Ji Zhe, who waved his finger at him after making a successful three-point shot, with the Ducks leading by 19 points, 89-70. According to the report, Mcgrady made 16 points in the first 12 minutes of the first quarter, which led his team to have a four-point lead, 33-29. He did not play for the entire second quarter but went on fire when he returned in the third quarter. It was at the start of the fourth quarter when McGrady was taunted by Zhe. “Mcgrady didn’t control his temper, and we need to give him some guidance in the future,” Qingdao Eagles manager Zhang Shizhang was quoted in the report. McGrady was immediately given a technical foul for his unprofessional act. He finished the game with season-high 37 points. McGrady, 33, who is a two-time NBA Scoring Champion and a seven-time NBA All-Star team member, signed a one-year contract for Qingdao Doublestar last October 9.
